As a busy mom to a very busy little gal, I live for my Starbuck trips and their venti iced vanilla lattes. BUT also as a mom with a very squirmy little toddler, who hates to be strapped down in her car seat, I had to find an alternative when it came to these daily latte trips.
I recently acquired a very simple espresso machine to try it out and see if I could possibly recreate my lattes at home!!
As simple as my espresso machine was, I have never been a barista nor do I know any official recipes. This is backed up by the fact that it took me 4 botched coffees to finally achieve a recipe I love and taste very similar to the iced vanilla latte I used to buy daily.
My first few attempts landed on very water, not creamy, and a no flavor latte. Apparently, I’m not someone who can just wing the ingredients and expect them to work out, I actually need to measure my espresso, my milk, and ice (who would of thought!).
Ingredients/measurements for a small iced latte:
- 1 shot = 1 oz
- 1/2 cup of vanilla soy milk (milk/creamer of choice)
- 4 oz of vanilla syrup (a few splashes according to your own tastebuds)
- cup full of ice
This is a very simple recipe. It is not as seasonal (cue pumpkin pie latte) but I love the simplicity and the rich flavors of the espresso. The ingredient portions do vary depending on size, so far I have not been able to reach a good portion to fit my taste in a large cup but the small cup came out perfect!
I’m not a professional nor have I ever been a barista! I just thought it would be fun to share my current at home coffee recipe!
